Confused by decimals, fractions, and moneyline numbers? You're not alone. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about betting odds — how they work, how to calculate your payout, and how AportPlus makes sure Filipino bettors always get competitive numbers on every market.
At AportPlus, you can switch between all three major odds formats anytime in your account settings. Here's what each one means.
The default format at AportPlus and the most common in the Philippines. A decimal number represents your total return per unit staked — including your original bet. Simple to calculate: just multiply your stake by the odds.
Common in British bookmaking and still used in international horse racing markets. The fraction shows profit relative to stake — the numerator is what you win, the denominator is what you bet. Odds of 5/1 mean you win ₱5 for every ₱1 you bet.
Widely used for American sports like NBA, NFL, and MLB. A positive number (+150) shows how much you win on a ₱100 bet. A negative number (−200) shows how much you need to bet to win ₱100. Both sides are shown simultaneously.
If you've ever looked at a sportsbook and felt a bit confused by all those numbers sitting next to team names, you're in good company. A lot of Filipino bettors start out just picking a team they support and placing a bet without really understanding what the odds are telling them. And that works fine sometimes — but if you want to bet smarter and manage your bankroll better, understanding how odds work makes a real difference.
At AportPlus, the default odds format is decimal — and that's intentional. Decimal odds are the most intuitive for most players because the number tells you directly what your total return will be for every peso you stake. An odd of 2.00 means you double your money. An odd of 1.50 means you get back one-and-a-half times your stake. An odd of 3.00 means three times your stake comes back. It's that straightforward.
What odds also tell you is implied probability — how likely the bookmaker thinks a particular outcome is. You can calculate this by dividing 1 by the decimal odd. An odd of 2.00 implies 50% probability. An odd of 4.00 implies 25%. An odd of 1.25 implies 80%. This is useful information for a bettor because if you think a team is more likely to win than the implied probability suggests, you're potentially looking at what bettors call "value" — a bet where the odds are more generous than they should be.
AportPlus covers over 20 sports with more than 500 markets daily, including football (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A), basketball (NBA and PBA), boxing (which is always a big one for Filipino fans), tennis, volleyball, and more. Each sport has multiple market types beyond just picking the outright winner — including handicap betting, over/under totals, first scorer, and various live in-play markets that update in real time as the game progresses.
Here's something most casual bettors don't know about: the overround, also called the "vig" or the bookmaker's margin. If you add up the implied probabilities of all outcomes in a market, you'll get a number slightly above 100% — not exactly 100%. That excess is the bookmaker's built-in margin.
For example, in a simple two-outcome match, you might see odds of 1.90 on both teams. The implied probability of each is 1 ÷ 1.90 = 52.6%. Total: 105.2%. That extra 5.2% is the overround — the bookmaker's built-in profit margin regardless of who wins. AportPlus aims to keep its overround competitive, especially on popular events, which is why AportPlus regularly offers some of the tightest margins in the Philippine market.
Understanding this doesn't mean you can't win — plenty of bettors profit consistently — but it does explain why betting on every market indiscriminately is a losing strategy over time. The bettors who do well are selective, disciplined, and focus on finding value.
When one team is a heavy favourite, the straight win market often offers short odds that don't make for an interesting bet. Handicap betting solves this by giving the underdog a virtual head start. For example, if Man City is at −1.5 goals handicap, they need to win by 2 or more for your bet on them to win. If you bet on Arsenal at +1.5, Arsenal just needs to lose by less than 2 goals — or win or draw — for your bet to pay out.
Handicap markets are available across all major sports at AportPlus and are especially popular for basketball and football where one side is clearly stronger. They give more interesting odds on the favourite while making the underdog a viable bet with a reasonable payout.
One of the most exciting features at AportPlus is live in-play betting, where markets open during a match and odds shift based on what's happening on the field. If a team scores early, their odds to win shorten immediately and the underdog's odds lengthen. If a game goes to the final minutes level, Draw odds will tighten. Watching a match and betting at the right moment — right after a red card, right after an unexpected early goal — can present genuine value opportunities that don't exist in pre-match markets.

The simplest football bet — pick Home Win (1), Draw (X), or Away Win (2). The most popular market globally and available on every match at AportPlus.
One team starts with a virtual goal advantage or deficit. Eliminates the draw outcome, giving you a 50/50 bet. Popular in Asia and a cornerstone market at AportPlus.
Bet on whether the total goals in a match will be over or under a given number (usually 2.5). Doesn't require picking a winner — just predicting the scoring level.
In boxing, bet on how the fight ends — KO/TKO, Decision, or Technical Decision. Higher odds than straight win picks. A big market for Filipino boxing fans at AportPlus.
Predict which round a fight ends in. High-odds bets with big payouts — a ₱500 bet on a specific round can return ₱10,000+. Common at AportPlus during major bouts.
The favourite must win by more than the spread; the underdog can lose within it and still cover. The standard basketball betting market, especially for NBA and PBA.
AportPlus consistently offers some of the tightest margins in the Philippine market. You keep more of what you win because our overround is lower than most competing platforms.
